People living in Medway can help shape the area's future

Medway Council is preparing a Local Development Framework (LDF) which will sets out its plans to provide and improve importance services, such as planning, education and skills, climate change, transport, leisure, culture and tourism.

The consultation will give residents the chance to get involved in planning for Medway's future development and investment needs until 2026.

The Local Development Framework, which replaces the 2003 Medway Local Plan, will then be used to guide development and investment in Medway until 2026.

Residents will also be able to give their views on a number options for where future development might occur. Only one of these, the proposed new settlement at Lodge Hill, Chattenden, is supported by the council, however. The consultation ends on 18 September.

Portfolio Holder for Strategic Development and Economic Growth, Cllr Jane Chitty, said: "The Local Development Framework is a new process of giving people the chance to shape Medway's future.

"It will affect everyone and we are committed to engaging with as many people as possible over the coming months so that we reflect local needs and the views of the community as a whole."

The council will be holding a number of exhibitions and workshops throughout Medway during August and September.
